Data Sources & Attribution
Our Commitment to Open Data
Day Off Atlas is built entirely on open-source, commercially-licensed data. We believe in transparency and proper attribution for the work of the open-source community.
Primary Data Source
python-holidays
python-holidays is a comprehensive Python library that provides official public holiday data for countries and regions worldwide. The library is actively maintained and regularly updated with the latest holiday schedules.
MIT License Summary
Permission is hereby granted, free of charge, to any person obtaining a copy of this software and associated documentation files, to deal in the software without restriction, including without limitation the rights to use, copy, modify, merge, publish, distribute, sublicense, and/or sell copies of the software.
Data Quality & Accuracy
The python-holidays library sources its data from:
- Official government sources and legislation
- National holiday calendars
- Community contributions and verification
- Historical records and cultural references
While we strive for accuracy, public holidays can change. We recommend:
- Verifying critical dates with official government sources
- Checking with your employer for company-specific policies
- Being aware that regional variations may exist
Data Processing
Our autonomous data pipeline:
- Fetches holiday data from python-holidays for all supported countries
- Processes holidays for a rolling 3-year window (previous, current, and next year)
- Calculates long weekend opportunities and bridge days
- Computes working days statistics for each country and region
- Generates static pages for optimal performance
- Updates automatically on a weekly schedule
Regional and Subdivision Data
For countries with regional variations (states, provinces, territories), we include subdivision-specific holiday data where available in python-holidays. This includes:
- United States (by state)
- Canada (by province and territory)
- Australia (by state and territory)
- Germany (by state)
- And many more...
Contributing to Data Quality
If you notice incorrect or missing holiday data, we encourage you to:
- Contribute directly to the python-holidays project on GitHub
- Contact us with details so we can investigate and report upstream
- Provide official sources or documentation for verification
Improvements to python-holidays automatically benefit Day Off Atlas and the entire community.
Commercial Use License
The MIT License permits commercial use, which is why Day Off Atlas can operate as a revenue-supported service through advertising. We are deeply grateful to the python-holidays maintainers and contributors for making this possible.
